I And You starts October 12

TheatreSquared presents "sharp and funny" drama

I AND YOU

Winner of the Steinberg / ATCA New Play Award

On stage October 12 – November 6, 2016

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS — September 20, 2016 — TheatreSquared today announced the cast for Lauren Gunderson’s critically acclaimed new drama, I And You, which begins performances October 12 in Northwest Arkansas. This “sharp and funny, buoyant” (Washington Post) new drama about the existential crisis of being an almost-adult is the winner of 2014 American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award. Classmates but virtual strangers, Caroline and Anthony are thrust together by a school project — which, he sheepishly tells her, is due tomorrow. Homebound by illness, Caroline is less than welcoming of Anthony, whose pathetic poster on Walt Whitman may be beyond rescue. But, as the poetry project progresses, Caroline finds herself opening up in ways she never expected, and the two discover a deeper mystery has brought them together. Performances are scheduled for October 12–November 6, 2016, with tickets ($15-$40) available at theatre2.org or (479) 443-5600.

“This play will take you utterly by surprise,” said T2 Artistic Director Robert Ford. “Two 17 year-olds crammed into an attic bedroom with posterboard and a deadline — it’s not where you’d expect to see a transformative, redemptive story unfold. For this young woman and man, everything is at stake. You’ll be right there with them — cautious, amused, intrigued, and ultimately transported in the best of ways.”

The production will be directed by Michael Landman, who previously directed The 39 Steps and Rabbit Hole at TheatreSquared as well as A Little War in Little Rock and The Spiritualist as part of the Arkansas New Play Festival. I And You, Lauren Gunderson’s “breakthrough play” (The New York Times), has been re-imagined on dozens of stages throughout the country since its 2014 premiere, making Gunderson one of the nation’s most-produced playwrights.

The cast for I And You includes Alexis Di Gregorio as Caroline and Jelani Alladin as Anthony. The lead creative team includes scenic designer Kate Noll, lighting designer Jacquelyn Cox, sound designer Will Eubanks, costume designer Ruby Kemph, properties master Brodie Jasch, and stage manager David A Loranca.

TheatreSquared is offering two free public events to meet the cast and creative team of I And You. The first is a “Meet the Director” social event on Monday, September 26 at 6pm in the taproom at Whole Foods in Fayetteville, with specially priced wine and local beer and the opportunity to ask director Michael Landman any behind-the-scenes question about the show. The second free event is a public T2 Artists Forum at Fayetteville Public Library on Tuesday, October 24 at 6pm, featuring Landman and the cast of the show in a conversation moderated by Ozarks at Large host Kyle Kellams. The Forum will be recorded for broadcast on KUAF 91.3 FM.

TheatreSquared’s production is made possible in part with support from show sponsors Stout Executive Search, Steve and Linda Nelson, and Peter and Ann Leer.
