Peoples & Land Acknowledgment
We recognize the Indigenous history of our region and the ground on which TheatreSquared stands. We acknowledge the Osage, Cherokee, Caddo, and Quapaw Nations, who owned and cared for this land until settlers drove them out. A portion of the Removal runs through our community and region, where people of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Muscogee, Chickasaw, and Seminole Nations passed on a death march to Indian Territory.
Arts institutions have historically marginalized the voices and appropriated the ancestral lands, possessions, and stories of Indigenous peoples—and continue to neglect their diverse and vibrant contemporary cultures today. We hold ourselves accountable to the above history of theft and violence by building equity, representation, and connection to the many sovereign Indigenous nations, and their artists, students, audience members, and leaders in our community today. We ask you who join us here to do the same.
