"Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley" on stage in NWA today through Dec. 30, 2018

“Droll and quite delicious” holiday sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS—November 28, 2018— Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, a holiday sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, begins performances today in Northwest Arkansas.

In this contemporary hit inspired by a classic, Mary, the bookish middle child of the Bennets, finally has her day. After being dragged along with her family to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy to celebrate Christmas, Mary is surprised to find herself drawn to an unexpected guest—sparking new hopes for independence, adventure, and the chance to be the heroine in her own story. Told with modern wit and period style, this romantic comedy will delight Austen fans and newcomers alike.

Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley is written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, and its widespread critical and popular acclaim have propelled it to become one of the most-produced titles in American this season.

“Everybody likes an underdog story,” said T2 Artistic Director Robert Ford, “and Mary is the ultimate longshot. In Pride and Prejudice, she comes in for merciless criticism from her older and more worldly sisters.  So what a gift it is for the holidays to see Mary find her own spotlight—at the center of a story filled with hope, love, and relentless persistence by inspiring women. Miss Bennet is a delightful, subversive, and heartwarming all-family play.”

Performances are scheduled November 28-December 30, and tickets are on sale now from $17-$48 at (479) 443-5600 or theatre2.org. Critical highlights include:

“Highly entertaining, droll and quite delicious—the kind of thing generations can enjoy together. " — Chicago Tribune

“A perfectly constructed love story… fizzy comedy and sweet spirit.” —San Francisco Chronicle

Miss Bennet is directed by Keira Fromm, a Jeff Award-nominated director based out of Chicago who returns to T2 after directing Disfarmer in the 2014 Arkansas New Play Festival.
