Summer Academy for Young Actors
TheatreSquared is committed to helping train the artists of tomorrow through professional, immersive workshops and academies that advance theatrical craft.
Summer 2014: Hamlet
July 7-18 at Walton Arts Center (Ages 10-18)
TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansas’ regional theatre, offers its seventh annual Summer Drama Academy, a two-week "total immersion" in the theatrical world of one of the most celebrated playwright of all time—William Shakespeare! In the mornings, students will study acting, movement, stage combat and design and, in the afternoons, rehearse an abridged version of Shakespeare's greatest tragedy, Hamlet.
This year's camp will closely follow TheatreSquared's professional production of Hamlet, often considered the greatest play ever written, and will feature guest visits from professional actors and designers from that production who will help them bring this story of passion, revenge, and intrigue to life.
This creative camp is perfect for students who are new to theatre as well as for those who are interested in further developing their skills. The program promotes active engagement and nurtures respect for the power of language, the examination of complex ideas, the expression of imagination and a deepened understanding of the richness of human experience. T2 camps enhance life skills of self-confidence, discipline, integrity, commitment and teamwork. The public performance will take place July 18 at 2pm in the Studio Theatre at Walton Arts Center's Nadine Baum Studios
Tuition: $275. Students should bring a bag lunch each day.
Scholarships are available through special support from the Nadine L. Baum Charitable Foundation for students with demonstrated financial need. If you are interested in applying, contact email@example.com.
Classes are also offered for adults aged 17+. Click here for more info.
